Before and After School
Latchkey
Latchkey is a program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade that is offered before and after school through the school year. Students have fun and enjoy friends while under the supervision of caring adults. The program is tailored to meet the developmental characteristics and needs of each individual child. Certified teachers direct the USD 259 district programs and follow the Kansas Department of Health and Environment guidelines. District sites are licensed child care facilities and 100% self-funded.
Who can participate?
Children must be 5 – 12 years of age. 5-year-olds must be enrolled in kindergarten. Enrollment is first come/served. Staffing is based on a 1 to 15 ratio. Wait lists are maintained at each site.
When is it available?
Latchkey is open on days school is in session. Check with your individual site for exact times. Most sites run approximately two hours before and after school. Summer programs are available at some sites.
What does it cost?
- All Latchkey prices are the same: $5 (reduced-price lunch eligible) or $6 (full pay) per day, with a two-day minimum per week.
- A non-refundable $20 registration is paid at the time of enrollment. You are not guaranteed a spot without paying this fee.

Girls on the Run
For girls in grades 3-5, Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence.
Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team.
Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. Our fantastic volunteer coaches for the 24/25 school year are Nurse Fletcher, Ms. Davis, Ms. Neas, and Ms. Rodriguez.
At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.
Monart Drawing Classes
The Monart School of Art offers classes for students Thursdays after school from 4:10-5:10 p.m. for 1st through 5th grade students.
Students learn the basics of drawing while experimenting with new media including markers, colored pencils, chalk and oil pastels, watercolor and much more. This guided, step-by-step method improves visual perception skills by breaking down the subject matter for children to see and follow along.
